The faces of Lalbenque

Kate and I went to the truffle market at Lalbenque yesterday. And what a day it was, filled of amazing discoveries and deliciousness. But perhaps the most striking part of the experience was the faces of the people we encountered. Here are some of them that I can share.

Great portraits! I love your pictures...

Those are great! They remind me of some of the things I'm seeing here. I love the old man hats - men in Italy wear them too, but without patterns, for some reason.

Amazing what a glass of red wine and a good game of boules can do for a chap.

Great faces, and hats, as already said.
But, I wonder...are YOUNG truffle hunters being trained? Everyone looks older and I'm wondering if the art of hunting the truffle will die out? Or maybe the older folks are the ones with the selling power.
Fabulous pictures!!

tell me you had a whole truffle! crunchy like an apple! just kidding...whole truffle in consomme with a puff pastry hat or salt baked truffles, at least? you don't need the big ones for these...

Pim,
Your photos are out of this world. They totally capture the essence of these people, as earthy and real as I imagine the food you've been eating there is.
Can I ask you what camera you take them with?

Wrinkles are calligraphy. Art and narrative.
