How to eat at a sushi bar
A marvelous video tutorial on how to eat at a sushi bar found on YouTube.
Just like the video in Ringu, it appears to have no traceable origin. Unlike the video on Ringu, you won't have to hide when your phone rings after seven days.
P.S. Don't go and call your sushi chef Taicho. Trust me on this. Don't.

That - was so funny! Thank you!

Hahaha this is my favourite video! There are also other funny "Japanese Tradition" videos, like origami, chopsticks, etc.

Ah, that's one of my favorite videos. Fun to watch it again. I love the part where they are basically soaking the sushi rice in soy sauce. Such an American thing to do, and such a no-no.

a funny vidoe. They are Japanese comedians. some of all are correct, but overreact. some are strange nowadays, and some are wrong. nobody licks the salt left outside.
Personally, I don't dip sushi in soy-sauce that much. too salty for me. and I don't say "maa maa maa". lol but this video is still funny.

Actually, the video is not real and is a satire video according to this blog.

Nevertheless, it was a really interesting video.

Ok, some round-eye had to ask this, so might as well be me:
What does Taicho mean in this context anyway? A quick Google / Wikipedia search didn't come up with anything offensive.
So when you're done laughing at me, how about letting me know? Thanks ;-)

The perfect example of how to be sincerely informative yet funny at the same time. I had no idea that eating sushi had so many interesting formalities. As they say, you learn something new every day

Oh my god that was great! Hilarious.

I'm assuming you knew this was a parody Pim...hard to take it seriously when you notice some of the sushi is plastic. lol
This was done by a comedy duo called “Ra-menzu” (Rahmens.net). They did a series of spoof tutorial videos under the label Japan Culture Labs. The TV In Japan blog has a the whole series.

I learned some of these before I went to Japan, and yet, I never really saw the Japanese observing all of them. Interesting to see though! so funny!

I love this video. They start with correct behavior, slip in plausible behavior, then gradually steer you to ludicrous. Too funny.

Very funny video.
Quick question for everybody: what is the salt really used for?
Posted by: Laurent | Sep 3, 2007 7:09:30 PM
I think the salt is left there to cast off bad vibes or the evil spirits. But then I don't really know, I'm not japanese, can somebody say what it really is for?

It is for keeping away the bad spirits/luck and for purification like the salt the sumo wrestlers throw. Every time we would move to a new house, my Mom would make a mound of salt at the front gate or front door before we moved in. It is replenished from time to time.
